Language trip of 4BHW & 3AHW in Malta

Malta is a beautiful island country located in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a popular destination for language learners from all over the world. We had the opportunity to participate in a language trip to Malta and it was an unforgettable experience.

On the first day of our arrival, we landed at the airport in Malta at 1:00 p.m.  and were then taken to our host families. After a short bus ride, we arrived at the homes of our host families, and we were very excited to meet them.

At 4 p.m. we got picked up from the language trip organization at our pick-up-points. We had a welcome meeting at the school and an orientation walk through St. Julians. Afterwards we got transferred back to our hosts where we had dinner with them.

On Sunday our day started with a full-day tour of Malta. Firstly, we drove to a city called Marsaxlokk which is also called „Fishing Village“, where we saw the famous Blue Grotto. After taking some pictures we visited the three cities: Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua, which we only saw from the bus. In Senglea we walked around the garden of Fort St. Michael and saw the Gardjola. Then we arrived to our last destination: Vittoriosa, where we had the chance to visit the Inquisitors Palace, the Victory Square, numerous Auberges and the Malta Maritime Museum.

On Monday we had our first day of school and all of us were really excited. With our lunch packages which were made by our host family, we made our way to  school. During our  lunch break we talked about our first impression and ate our sandwiches. After the second lesson we made our way to Valetta, which is the capital of Malta, where we had a guided tour. In Valetta we visited many things like the old opera house ruins, the Auberge de Castille which currently houses the Prime minister’s office, and the St. Georges Square. We also enjoyed an audiovisual show about the history of Malta. Afterwards we got transported back to our host families, where we had dinner.

After school on Tuesday, we made our way to the Ghadira Bay Beach, where we had a great afternoon. Some of us played volleyball and others just relaxed  in the sun.

Wednesday started off with school until 12:45 p.m. Afterwards we had a half-day tour of Mdina and Rabat, starting off from the suburb of Rabat. We saw St. Paul’s Church & Grotto before proceeding to Malta’s old capital city, Mdina. There we explored the Palazzo Vilhena which currently houses the Natural History Museum, Mdina Cathedral and the bastions. We finished the day with a delicious cake from Fontanella which Mdina is quite popular for.

On Thursday after school we had some free-time, where some of us went shopping, while others went for lunch. At 3:00 p.m. we made our way to the cinema to watch „Der gestiefelte Kater“ all of us enjoyed the movie. Afterwards, we made our way home to our host families.

On our last day of school, we did some presentations about Malta. After designing a poster, we presented our project to our class. This was a great ending. After school we had some more free-time.  Many of us went out shopping in a big mall. Due to the fact that it was March 17th, St. Patricks Day, numerous people celebrated on the streets.. Then we went out for dinner to finish off our beautiful language trip. Afterwards we went home, packed our suitcases again and said goodbye to our host families.

At 4 a.m. we headed towards the airport and flew back home.

Overall, the language trip to Malta was a great success. We had the chance to get to know the Maltese culture, improve o.ur language skills and make new friends. A special thanks to Mrs. Horacek, Mrs. Messner and Mrs Hofer who have supported us on our trip.
